The Case IH Maxxum 5100 and 5200 Series tractors were built to directly compete with John Deere’s Mannheim Tractors (20xx, 30xx SoundGard tractors, 6100, and 6010 Series) in the North American and locally in the European market(they were also built in Germany). While the Maxxum took a lot of design cues from the 7100 Series Magnum, it was the Cummins B series engines that gave the Maxxum tractors their edge in the utility tractor market, the 5120 and 5220 were built with Cummins 4BT 4 cylinder engines, while the larger ones were built with 6BT 6 cylinder engines(colloquially known as the “12 Valve Cummins”). The lower HP models came standard with 16 speed synchro transmissions, however all tractors were available with a 16 speed partial powershift with optional creeper gears(this option is not featured in the game as there is no reason for >1mph speeds for gameplay purposes). The combination of the smooth, reliable power from the Cummins engines and a partial powershift transmission made these tractors great chore tractors, and formidable competition in the 90s utility tractor market.
